What I’m Looking Forward To

I am very much looking forward to several things throughout the 6 months of this trip.

  1. Meeting people. There are ~3,000 people that do this trail. While I can’t meet them all, I am looking forward to meeting a lot of them. I’m curious to see what other types of psychos are doing this trail. Ha.
  2. I’ve heard very, very, good things about the Sierra’s. I am very much looking forward to that experience. While I can’t predict what will happen, I am curious about the High Sierra Route and hope the snow/weather levels will allow me to take that route. I love a good challenge and especially if it includes compass/map only type of navigations without a trail. Off-trail is my happy place.
  3. Towards the end there is a section called the Goat Rocks Wilderness. I was there in 2019 and am very excited to go back. It is frequently the highest rated area, just below the Sierra’s.
  4. The actual challenge. This isn’t a simple week-long hike. This isn’t just a physical endurance. There are so many factors to a complete thru-hike, and I want to experience them all. Mental challenges; Physical challenges; Emotional challenges; Hardships; Accomplishments; Happy times; Extreme rain; Hail; Snow; Wildfires; Trail closures; Set-backs; Cockroach motels; Nasty mosquitos; Wild animals. I want to experience it all.
  5. I’m a true sucker for alpine lakes and meadows. They are my favorite earthly features. I hope I lose count of the amount I pass.

  1. This sounds like an amazing adventure! Fancy walking, indeed … and a whole lot more. I love that you are talking about experiencing the highs and lows and everything in between with the same enthusiasm. That means even a bad day is a good day, and it’s going to make them all wonderful. I can’t wait to follow along from here. 🙂

    1. Wow!! Good luck Seth! That’s amazing. Most humans on the planet never do something a fraction that intense in their entire life. Soak in the hardships; love how you talk about them.

  2. I am very proud of my brother, and what he wants to accomplish, and I believe that he will accomplish all he can as he has trained many many months and years for this and I have locked forward to seeing his journey, good luck brother! Love you! I’ll be watching you along on your journey, good luck!♥️
